Emmanuel Ortiz. Brown unLike Me is the poetic narrative of one man’s exploration of the world through Latino eyes, a collection of poems celebrating identity, language, family, and community while confronting issues of racism, colonialism, assimilation, and war. Brown unLike Me takes the reader from the political battlefields of Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Chiapas to the shifting ethnic landscape of the Midwest, where basketball courts, bookstores, airports, islands, fields and factories are all a part of a bittersweet backdrop for a range of figures whose stories contribute to a deeper understanding of what it means to be Latin@/Brown/Other at such a critical political moment.
